Your Inner Universe: A Meditation on Cosmic Consciousness
A step-by-step guide to experiencing the boundless, starry expanse of your true self.
A spiritual awakening is a direct journey into the cosmos of consciousness. It’s the moment you dip your hands into the limitless ocean of starlight and realize that you are not just a single planet, but the entire galaxy. You are in the clouds, the trees, and the distant stars, because they are all harmonious parts of you.
My first voyage into this state was in 2005, while meditating in the Himalayas. But recently, a seeker asked me a profound question: “Is there a way to glimpse that cosmic connection without spending years in meditation?”
In that moment, a map to a more direct path was illuminated. This contemplative meditation is that map. It is designed to guide you, step-by-step, to the incredible experience of being one with everything—of knowing yourself not as the “I” in your head, but as the entire universe looking back at itself.
A Meditation to Experience Your Cosmic Self
🚀 Preparation Tip
Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed for 10-15 minutes. This is your launchpad. Take a few deep, centering breaths and gently close your eyes.
Step 1: Shift Your Gravitational Center
Our entire life, we have been conditioned to feel like a pilot inside a machine—an “I” located behind the eyes, looking out. This step is about realizing you are also the space through which the machine travels. We will flip this perception, shifting our anchor point from inside the body to the space outside of it.
With eyes closed, become aware of the empty space in front of you. You can’t see it, but you can feel its presence between you and the wall.
Now, imagine your awareness—your “I”—is no longer inside your head. Instead, imagine you are observing your body from a point a few feet in front of it, floating in that empty space.
You are now the silent observer in the space, looking at the quiet planet of your body. Hold this reversed perception. Instead of just visualizing it, try to truly feel this shift.
The Method
Step 2: Go Supernova
From your new anchor point in space, you are still a single point of observation. The next step is to expand that point, like a star going supernova, until your awareness fills the entire cosmos of the room.
Holding the perspective from outside your body, feel your observing presence begin to expand outwards.
Gently and without force, let your awareness grow to encompass the entire space around you.
Feel that you are the space in the room. You are not in the room; the room, your body, and everything in it are now happening inside of you.
The Method
Step 3: Become the Galaxy
The final step is to dissolve the boundary between the inner and outer. The subtle feeling of aliveness you feel inside your body is the same cosmic energy that makes up the space around you. Here, we merge them into one.
As you feel yourself as the vast, expanded space, bring a gentle focus to the feeling of aliveness inside your physical body.
Now, feel that same aliveness in the space outside your body. Recognize them as one and the same—a single wave of cosmic energy.
If done correctly, the separation dissolves. You can feel this conscious aliveness everywhere: inside you, outside you, in the air, in the walls. You are the galaxy—limitless and free.
The Method
✨ A Note on Spontaneity
While this process is broken into steps, my own experience was a single, spontaneous expansion—a sudden recognition of what always was. Use these steps as a guide, but be open to the leap happening all at once.
Stabilizing in the Expanse
By consciously practicing this shift, you begin to break the gravitational pull of the ego—the conditioning that binds you to a limited view of yourself.
Getting even a momentary taste of this cosmic oneness is transformative. It can last for a few seconds or a few days, but it provides a glimpse of your true, boundless nature. It is not the final destination, but it is a giant leap into the heart of pure consciousness.
🪐 Cosmic Integration Tip
Throughout your day, take 30 seconds to simply feel the space around you. Feel the air on your skin, sense the space in the room, and for a brief moment, entertain the idea that this space is not separate from you. This simple practice helps anchor this expanded awareness in your daily life.
